The 42nd Annual Jerome Nemer Lecture
The USC Casden Institute, USC Shoah Foundation, and Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion Los Angeles proudly present the 42nd Annual Jerome Nemer Lecture. This year, we are honored to feature keynote speaker Michael Twitty who will speak on the topic of: "Fusion?/Mosaic?/Braid?/: Decoding and Deciphering Black Jewish History, Identity and Material Culture". Michael Twitty is an African-American Jewish writer, culinary historian, and educator. He is the author of The Cooking Gene, published by HarperCollins/Amistad, which won the 2018 James Beard Foundation Book Award for Book of the Year as well as the category for writing. The keynote lecture will be followed by a response given by Dr. Ben Ratskoff. Dr. Ratskoff is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Critical Theory & Social Justice at Occidental College.
